Even with his nose cut off he has a very long snout :> I wonder if adding flax seeds to her diet would help you hen recover. I did it once for a chicken who'd lost most of her feathers, and they grew in beautifully. Now I eat flax too cuz they it;s so good for the skin:)
Flax is good for you...high in protein too, right? They need lots of protein to keep their bodies working right. I may try that. He does have a long snout, I think he's tired of the joke "Why the long face, bud?" lol
I'm a sickie this week - poo! Just wanting to get well soon! (Popping over from the WW HQ - thanks for hosting a linky party over here! Hope you have a great week!)
Chickens go through a molt period (once or twice a year). They lose feathers and stop laying. It doesn't mean they are sick, it's a natural thing that happens every year. Where I live here in Texas, we usually only get one molt a year. My chickens just started laying again from this years molt.
Hi Kay...this gal molted last fall, and I'm slightly suspicious it could be a second molt...but I catch her huddling in a corner all puffed which makes me think she doesn't feel good. I'm also worried her comb is super pale, which it wasn't with her molt this passed fall. I'm doing their routine worming a bit early just in case it's something like that...but after this I just wait and see if she either perks up, or gets worse. Hopefully she'll perk up. All my other adult hens are healthy and laying, so hopefully she will be doing the same thing soon. Thanks for your comment...I LOVE talking chickens with other chicken people. :)
